Proactive Management & Monitoring
Like a full Managed Server from Rochen with a Managed Virtual Server (MVS) solution we will look after absolutely everything at the server-level for you including keeping the environment secured, responding proactively to any issues your system may encounter and keeping you updated around the clock as to the system status.
Proactive Software Updates
Rochen will proactively manage all pre-installed software for you including the Operating System (OS) and services like Apache, PHP and MySQL. For example, if the PHP Group were to release a critical security update for PHP then we don’t expect you to have to contact us requesting the update but instead we will contact you and proactively schedule a time with you for the update to be applied.
Performance Tuning and Environment Customizations
Our management services also include tweaking and tuning your environment to meet your exact requirements. For example, Rochen engineers can deploy performance enhancements such as Alternative PHP Cache (APC) and MySQL caching. We can tune your environment for optimal performance with popular scripts like Joomla.
When it comes to third-party software issues or requests we do not officially support these but will make a “best effort” attempt for you. For example, many clients request we install Apple’s Darwin Streaming Server or Subversion Server (SVN). While we do not officially support either of these we can generally install such items at no extra cost.

- Further performance tuning for popular scripts like Joomla, Drupal and WordPress.
- Bringing environment into PCI compliance for hosting ecommerce website. E.g. Magento hosting.
- Deployment of services like Subversion Server (SVN) or Apple’s Darwin Streaming Server
24/7 Global Monitoring and Response
Rochen’s engineers are constantly monitoring your Managed Virtual Server (MVS) around the clock and will immediately respond to any issues. This means that if your environment were to experience an issue at 3AM we do not expect you to have to contact us and alert us to the issue. Instead, Rochen will proactively begin working to resolve the problem for you.
Rochen has invested in the latest enterprise-grade network management and monitoring systems from SolarWinds. We will monitor the following items for your hosted environment on a three (3) minute cycle as standard:
- PING
- Apache (ensures a defined page loads with a 200 OK code and a specific keyword is retrieved from the page)
- FTP
- POP
- IMAP
- SMTP
In addition we can also add the following optional monitors to your environment at no extra cost:
- MySQL (ensures a full connection can be established and query executed)
- Disk Space Monitoring (monitoring for free space to ensure log files do not fill partitions etc.)
- Resource Usage Monitoring (CPU + RAM)
- Customized monitors if you are running custom services
If a failure is detected by our monitoring system on-duty Rochen engineers are immediately notified and will respond to the incident. We also have defined escalation procedures in place so that an issue can be quickly escalated to a senior engineer or the customer notified, if required. Rochen has engineers located in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia to ensure around the clock monitoring coverage and rapid response to any issues for your hosted environment.
